Blueprint Creator for Jira Projects || Documentation


1. Introduction

Blueprint Creator for Jira Projects in Jira refers to the process of creating a new project template and we can create issues in the template and based on that template we can create a new project. It allows users to duplicate the schemas of the template project and issues under the template , including its summary, description, attachments, and other relevant information.

Overall, project cloner in Jira streamlines project management and improves efficiency by enabling users to replicate, modify, and track similar issues quickly. It is a valuable feature for teams working with Jira, providing a convenient way to manage and streamline their workflows.

2. App Installation

Step 1: Login as a Jira administrator. Go to Administration -> Add-on -> Find Add-on 

Step 2: Find the "Blueprint Creator for Jira Projects" and click "Install".

3. Project Clone Steps

Step 1: Go to Jira Home  → Click on Apps drop down -> Click on “Blueprint Creator for Jira Projects”

Step 2: After selecting "Blueprint Creator for Jira Projects" the application view will be displayed, providing you with the interface to interact with the tool.

Authorization Process

Step 1: To validate the Authorization, please provide your email and 'API Token' and click on the validate button.

Step 2: If you have entered an incorrect email or API token, an error message will be displayed indicating the issue in the flag message.

Step 3: Upon clicking the "Validate" button, if both the email and API token are valid, a success flag message will be displayed confirming that the API token is valid.

Step 4: If the user is not entering the Valid Email and Valid Token then they will be not allowed to go to next sections

Project Template Creation Process

Step 1: Click on “Project Template Creation”

Enter Project Template Name: The Name of the Project template needs to be created.

Enter Project Key: The Project key of the Project

Project Template Type: Which type of project we need to create, based on each type we have few templates, we need to select on template on which the project structure will be created.

For Business Type, we have these templates

For Software Type, we have these templates

For ServiceDesk Type, we have these templates

Step 2: We need to enter the project name, key and select a template and click on “Create Project Template“. Then the project will be created.

Step 3: We can go to Setting → Projects

Step 4: We will be able to see the project created

In this project the user can add the issues, subtasks any changes in configuration.

Project Cloning Process

Step 1: Click on “Project Cloner”

Select the Project Template: List of all Project templates which we have created using Project template creation process

Select the Issue type: Issue types under the selected project template, we can select All issue types or any specific issue types, Based on the issue type selection issues will be copied.

Example: If we are selecting all issue types, all issues will be copied. If we are selecting any specific issue type, then issues with that issue type only will be copied.

Enter New Project Name: New project name, which needs to be created based on the template

Enter New Project Key: Project Key for the project

Step 2: We need to Select the project template, issue type, project name and key. The if we click on “Start process”. It will Create the project with same configurations of “Template Project“ issues all will be copied.

Step 3: We can go to Setting → Projects, we will be able to see the project created.

If we check the project we will be able to see the issues and same configurations will be added in the new project.

Following details will be copied from Source Template to new Project

User can create the project template using our App. Using the created template the user can create more projects with same configurations like,

  • Project Details like URL, Project category, Description, Project lead, Default Assignee (If Any)

  • Issues based on the selected Issue Type

  • Issue types

  • Permission Schemes (If Any)

  • Notification Schemes (If Any)

  • Workflow Scheme (If Any)

  • Screen Scheme (If Any)

  • Issue type screen Scheme (If Any)

  • Field Configuration Scheme (If Any)

  • Subtasks(If Any)

  • Attachments(If Any)

  • Web links(If Any)
